According to recent SteamCharts data, the number of active Quake Champions players on Steam continues to decline. In June 2025, the average player count dropped to 223.8, down 6.87% from May’s 240.3. Over the past six months, Quake Champions has averaged around 250 players.

Meanwhile, Quake Live shows stability and growing interest: for seven straight months, its average player count has exceeded that of the newer Quake Champions — the longest period recorded so far. In June 2025, Quake Live averaged 266 players, with an average of about 269 over the past six months.

A year ago in June 2024, Quake Champions averaged 299 players compared to only 236 in Quake Live. These figures highlight a clear shift in player interest toward the classic version of the game over the past year.

According to esportsearnings.com, total prize money awarded in Quake Champions tournaments stands at $3,529,688.25, while Quake Live has seen only $684,854.12 in prizes. Despite this large disparity in prize pools and Quake Champions’ newer status, the game has failed to sustain player interest at a high level and the current statistics confirm its continuing decline in popularity compared to Quake Live’s loyal audience.

However, Quake Champions may still have an opportunity to reverse this downward trend: the recently announced Season 27 update introduces a new seasonal patch that could reignite interest among players and bring fresh momentum to the game.
