On October 21, 2025, the reboot of the Painkiller series was released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game was developed by Anshar Studios and published by 3D Realms together with Saber Interactive.
The story follows four characters trapped in Purgatory for crimes against Heaven. They are given a chance at redemption by stopping the fallen angel Azazel, who intends to send a demon army to Earth.
The game can be played solo or in co-op. Players will go through different regions of Purgatory filled with demons and large monsters, using a wide set of weapons and tarot cards that grant abilities and can be combined with other players’ powers. The four characters — Ink, Void, Sol and Roch — each have unique skills.
