rapha notes that his approach this season is influenced by events away from the game:
My plans are a little different than usual – my daughter was just born :D. Honestly I’m surprised I’m even playing, but my wife gave the green light so I’m here for this season =). I see it as a chance to have fun, compete and see how well I can do while constantly being sleep deprived.
He says his goal is to go step by step and carry his practice form into officials:
I need to go match by match and hope I hit my stride at the right time. In practice I’ve become more consistent, so I just want to keep improving and bring that level into the official matches.
Explaining why he did not appear in previous 250 FPS seasons, rapha points to scheduling:
I didn’t play in earlier seasons because I knew in advance about things that would keep me away for long stretches. I would’ve needed too many exceptions and reschedules, which would create problems for everyone else. So I decided not to take a slot and let someone who could be there the whole season play instead.
He also comments on what he likes in Quake Champions:
What I liked right away in Quake Champions was how they added different movement styles from all the previous Quakes. I really enjoy the variety in movement and how it brings the game to life. And of course the weapons – they hurt again. As much as I love Quake Live, I thought weakening the weapons was a mistake. Getting back that feeling of power, closer to Q3 style, is what I love in QC.
For Quake Live, he highlights how easy it is to get games when time is limited:
In QL you can almost always join a server and find a game quickly. With my limited time that helps a lot: I can just sit down, play and focus on specific aspects I want to improve – whether that’s scrims or random games on the best maps.
Asked who he would like to see in the league, rapha keeps the answer open:
Honestly, I’d be glad to see any of the old players – it would be cool if they came back. Or maybe someone new will rise and challenge the top players.
