Dirty Mail -- Aug. 10, 2015
So it has been a little bit longer than I anticipated since our last Dirty Mail, but we hope to bring you about to the latest, and greatest happenings within the Dirty Bomb community. We'll quickly go over the whats-what in the competitive scene including the disappointing news involving the guys at DirtyCups.gg, and the latest LowLandLions Cups. Then we'll move on to some interesting stuff involving Splash Damage, and finally end things with some cool community content.
DirtyCup.gg Closes Its Doors
Well, well, well. In an unfortunate twist the guys at DirtyCups.gg have put all their events on hold promising to return quite soon, as well as hinting of a "new community" that will be holding events. I think most people will be quite disappointed, and I suspect sooner-or-later, fingers will start pointing, chiefly at Splash Damage. The lack of progress on very critical, and crucial competitive features, including server tools, admin tools, and an anti-cheat system have taken far longer than people anticipated, outstripping the patience of many players. I hope these guys return soon because they provided a great platform for the community to really play this game how it was meant to be played, in a competitive environment.
LowLandLions Cups
In better news, the guys at LowLandLions are still going strong, and will be hosting their SEVENTH Dirty Bomb cup on Tuesday, August 11, with games starting at 17:00 UTC. Head on over to their official website to sign-up! If you haven't checked out any of their games, then please give it a shot. They are fast, furious games involving some of the best Dirty Bomb teams around. Their last cup provided some entertaining matches, so don't miss out.

Splash Damage Happenings
In the crazy world of Dirty Bomb the guys over at Splash Damage always seem to make themselves availble to the media so that they are in constant communication with their fans. In an interview with Kaira Villaneuva of The Mary Sue, Lead Designer, Neil Alphonso, and Lead Writer, Edward Stern sat down to talk about the game-design, including gender, and class issues they had to deal with whilst designing Dirty Bomb.
Community Content
In our final bit of Dirty Mail, I'd just like to highlight some cool things from members of the community.

A the current moment, DirtyCups.gg cups, tournaments, leagues, and events are on hold. Unfortunately, the staff team no longer has the resources or time to support these endeavours. Luckily, this is a temporary slump and we look forward to bringing back more content & events than ever before. In addition to this, a new community will be hosting Dirty Bomb events in the near future so stay tuned for updates!

Neil Alphonso: The importance of gender and race representation was actually one of the very first things set in stone when we started Dirty Bomb; this was always going to be an IP that we fully controlled so we set out to have it represent our principles rather than have it dictated to us by market forces, which has happened to us in the past.. In addition to this, the recent update has generally seen positive reviews from the community, with a much better match-making experience all around, even though some people have complained of longer queue times. On top of this, Splash Damage's free merc weekend that took place two weekends ago allowed the community to try out all the mercs before they bought them, I hope you had a chance to try out a few new mercs, and I hope Splash Damage has these few months. It's refreshing to try a new arsonal of mercs instead of just sticking to your own bread-and-butter types. Building on that, Splash Damage recently tweeted that there will be a new merc rotation "soon."
What looks like Proxy, Kira, and Rhino.
Community Content
In our final bit of Dirty Mail, I'd just like to highlight some cool things from members of the community.
- First up is /u/slider2k's centralized UI. I think for players who have a hard time distinguishing UI elements in the middle of a fight, this UI provides a large, clean interface. Check it out!
- There were also a couple of cool movement, and jump videos, explaining, and demonstrating some interesting movement options on different maps. Both are linked below!
- Finally, /u/Shinojii had some dope Dirty Bomb fan art!
