Map-Center has released Quake Traps Jam 1, a new community-made map pack for the original Quake, now available on ModDB. Unlike most traditional mods, this one forgoes combat in favor of environmental hazards, puzzles and precision platforming.
Built on the Arcane Dimensions framework, the jam includes a custom hub and five standalone maps created by aj_the_boomer, alexUnder/VoidForce, ish, Lord Asaki and PuLSaR. Each level focuses on different types of non-combat challenges: timed sequences, puzzle solving, tricky jumps, and deadly traps. In some cases — particularly ish’s map — players can expect a steep skill requirement, with the creators even warning that finishing without cheats may not be feasible for everyone.
The jam was organized by alexUnder, who also created the hub map and co-designed one of the challenges. A trailer by LeChumQc accompanies the release, showcasing the distinctive visual and gameplay style of the pack.
Whether you're a speedrunner, a puzzle fan, or a long-time Quake player looking for something off the beaten path, Traps Jam 1 offers a refreshing (and brutal) spin on classic Quake gameplay.
You can download the mod on ModDB. Community members are invited to join the discussion and future playtesting via the Map-Center Discord.
